James Hall was born on 15 October 1829 in Knutsford, Cheshire. In 1841 the family was living in Knutsford near the Race Track. On the 2nd March 1851, he married Mary Ellis at The Mother Church in the Parish of Harwarden, County of Flint. Four weeks later (the night of the 1851 Census - 30th March) he had returned to Knutsford and was staying with his mother and siblings, whilst Mary was still in Harwarden staying with her parents, having recently given birth to their first child Elizabeth. By 1861 James, Mary and their children were living in The Laundry at Tabley House, Knutsford, where they both worked. Over the years he had many jobs at the house, including: General Labourer, Gardener's Labourer, Gentleman's Servant and Usher (School Master). James died at The Laundry, Tabley House on 22 April 1906.

Group Photo Outside Peacock Lodge This photograph was taken outside Peacock Lodge, Tabley House. It is believed that the picture was taken during the early 1900s. James Hall is 2nd from the left. Sitting down beside him is his wife Mary Hall née Ellis. Also in the picture, at the far right, is Ellen Leicester née Forster and standing beside her is her husband Charles Leicester. The other people in the photograph have yet to be identified.
