George Vincent was baptised on 20 February 1770 in Sherborne, Dorset. He married Sarah Higgins in Sherborne Abbey on 25 December 1791. George was a blacksmith and the family lived at the top end of Newland Street, Sherborne. In the 1798 Militia Ballot List George was listed as ‘co’ (Crossed Out – or exempt).

George and Sarah had eight children (five girls and three boys). The eldest, Hannah Vincent, was baptised on 17 February 1792 and the youngest, John Vincent, was baptised on 6 October 1902. On 26 May 1822 George was buried in the parish of Sherborne.

Following his death his son Thomas Vincent continued the blacksmith, which later became Vincent Motors. In the 1970s Vincent Motors moved to Yeovil and the location of the blacksmiths and garage is now a car park.
