Ellen Leicester was born on 22 September 1853 in Plumley, Cheshire. She spent the early part of her childhood in plumley. The family then moved to Peacock Lodge, the gate house for Tabley House. At 17 she was working as a servant for a family in Knutsford. On 5 August 1880 she married
Thomas Hall, who had also grown up at Tabley House, since his parents worked there. At the time of the marriage Ellen was residing in Liverpool Road, Warrington. After the marriage she went to live with Thomas at 40 Ashton Street, Warrington; where on 25 July 1881, she gave birth to their daughter Ada Mary Ellen (Nellie) Hall. Tragically, giving birth had weekened Ellen and she died two days later. She was burried at Lower Peover Church on 30 July 1881.
